Has it started yet?
Everyone around you asking you what your New Year’s resolutions are. I used to make a lot of resolutions and never got very far with any of them.
Ever go to a gym in January? It’s a zoo! Just wait a few weeks and that same gym will be virtually empty again. Why do we start out “full steam ahead” just to end up sputtering out?
The simple reason is that we focus on too much and have too many distractions.
There are 6 basic areas of our life:
- Physical
- Spiritual
- Mental
- Financial
- Emotional
- Relational
I don’t need to tell you that most resolutions focus on physical (get into shape, lose weight) and financial (get a better job, save more money). And there is NOTHING wrong with these targets. Those are the more tangible, measurable goals.
No matter what area you want to focus on or what your goals are, there is a good chance you will give up if you don’t have focus.
I read a great book a while back by Gary Keller, founder of Keller Williams Realty, called “The One Thing”.
As the book title suggests, he taught me the importance of finding the ONE thing I want to accomplish and how to eliminate the distractions that keep me from succeeding at that ONE thing.
Over the course of many years now, I have been developing my own system of goal setting and goal KEEPING. For me, New Year’s Resolutions play a critical role in my success. If you have no goals, you are guaranteed to achieve them – every single time!
I want to share with you how I have structured my goals in such a way that I have had very few that “sputtered out”.
Now, keep in mind, I set lofty goals for myself, and I don’t always reach my targets, but wouldn’t you rather set a goal to make $90k and only make it to $80k, than have no goal and settle for where you are now?
You do NOT want to miss next week’s post. I am going to share with you a SPECIFIC strategy that will help you make and keep your New Year’s Resolutions.
I’ve created a video training that takes you through the process of finding your one thing and how you structure your goals so that you actually achieve them.
While you are waiting for next week’s post, go ahead and be thinking about the New Year’s Resolutions you want to set for yourself. Yes, I said “resolutions” plural.
ONE thing does not mean you can only have one goal; it means you focus on one thing at a time.
Ok, that was a bit of a spoiler, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see how you do that and still achieve everything you want.
Make sure you check back with me next week! If you’re not on my “list” (don’t worry…no naughty ones here), then go sign up here.
And, by the way, If you want to read more about Gary Keller, check out this great article in Forbes.
